WWII was an innovative time for all countries, creating war machines no one of the time could dream of. In this exhibit we will describing the best of the best machines used in WWII. This will consist of advances in cars, tanks, and artillery.
Many vehicles of WWII were recreated of created for the battlefield. One of these newly created cars was the jeep. The jeep was light, held eight men, had extra gas and tires, and was fast. The jeep was great invention for the war because it was a fast but light car and was fit for off-roading as well. A total of over 660,000 jeeps were made in 1940-1945. Another vehicle commonly used was armored cars. Many countries made these armored cars which were lighter than tanks and could move faster at the cost of less armor. One example of the armored cars is the American made M8 Greyhound. This vehicle was produced by the thousands and proved useful on the battlefield even though it was vulnerable due to the light armor.
Huge advancements in Tanks caused warfare to go to new heights. Many tanks were created by different countries. One main tank used by the allies was the American M4A1 Sherman. This tank was uncomplicated, fast, and reliable compared to other tanks. Over 40,000 of the Sherman tanks were built. A tank used by Germany was Panzer VI A other wise known as Tigers. As many American troops would see this tank approaching they would scream out “Tiger!” as this tank did large amounts of damage. By the end of the war over 1,350 Tigers were deployed into battle.
Artillery of WWII became more advanced to try and shoot down aircraft. Along with these advancements, came more deadly guns and artillery in WWII. A commonly used weapon by the U.S. was the M1 Pack Howitzer/M116. This gun was recreated and innovated throughout the war to be more mobile, heavier explosions, more range, and more accurate. Some were even used to destroy and attack enemy tanks.
In the end, many vehicles and weapons were used to achieve victory in WWII. Overtime many of these machines were recreated and made to acquire certain goals. Overall, the advances in cars, tanks, and artillery decided most of the battles in the war.
